Forged Lifting Hooks & Rigging Hardware
Lifting hardware is the clearest case for forging in all of engineering: the load is overhead, people work beneath it, and every standard worldwide requires forged construction with proof load testing and certification.

Proof Load Testing and Certification
Every unit is proof loaded to the multiple of working load limit specified by the standard, then inspected for permanent deformation and cracks. A test certificate carrying the batch and heat number accompanies each consignment.
- Proof load tested to standard
- Post-test dimensional check
- Magnetic particle inspection
- Certificate per batch
Ductile Failure by Design
Rigging hardware is designed to deform visibly before it breaks, giving warning. That behaviour depends on forged ductility and correct tempering — it is not available from a hard, brittle cast equivalent.
Marking and Traceability
Working load limit, grade, size and batch identification are permanently marked on every piece, so an inspector can verify capacity and traceability years into service.

Designed to Warn Before It Fails
A correctly forged and tempered hook stretches visibly before it breaks, and its throat opening increases measurably. That behaviour is designed in, not incidental: inspection regimes measure throat opening precisely because it records accumulated overload. A hard, brittle hook would snap without warning, which is why hardness is controlled rather than maximised. A hook showing increased throat opening has been overloaded and must be removed from service. See why lifting hooks fail.
